Happy Birthday to Me!
Happy Birthday to me! Thinking back, I've spent holidays abroad, but this is my first bday away from home. I am so blessed to be in contact with many other volunteers, so I'm organising a bday/housewarming party this Saturday.
A great bday gift, if you are so inclined, would be an e-mail with your news. You can read my blog, so I'd love to be equally updated on your happenings. If you're feeling energetic or proactive, may I suggest a trip to the post office to send a parcel (preferably with chocolate inside) to:
Tina Chen
VSO Program Office
P.O. Box 4599
Kigali, Rwanda
(Note: please indicate a very low value on the parcel because I might have to pay 50% of that value upon collection.)
If you're feeling generous, you may even make a donation to VSO, to support the sending of more skilled workers to help with development, education, livelihood, HIV & AIDS, and gender projects or start-ups.
Some NGOs raise money, send equipment and supplies to developing countries, and pat themselves on the back. But what good is a computer if there is no electricity? What good is an X-Ray scanner if no one knows how to operate it? So VSO seeks to fill that gap, to send skilled individuals who can help build the capacity of the local organisation and expand their resource pool. I promise to post about my work tomorrow.
